David Shokouhbeen was born in 1984 in Herdecke, Germany. He is photographing since 2006. Beginning with exclusively black and white photography, he started developing film in a self-built darkroom at his parents’ house and switched later to a digital camera, shooting in color more often.
Professionally, studied to become a teacher for Spanish and Mathematics, he ended up in the family business, renovating houses. Always on the road with one of his favorite cameras, his path led him to study Photography at the Folkwang University of Arts in Essen, Germany.
About my work:
Street photography is the genre that I deal with most intensively and at the same time the biggest challenge, as it demands a high level of concentration and attention when you try to capture the decisive moment. What I like about street photography is the thrill and the unpredictability of life itself when it unfolds. Sometimes you capture the most absurd moments that you couldn't have imagined before. In addition to the obvious humor, I research the interplay that takes place between people and their everyday environment. The boundary between illusion and perception is often blurred, even though it is a matter of reality, never staged. It is therefore important to show a certain way of thinking, to have a vision, to be able to anticipate and of course to choose the right perspective.
With my photographic works, I was already represented at several renowned international street photography festivals and gave a lecture on the street photography scene in Cologne at the first German festival for street photography in Hamburg in 2019.
